Description: Interviews a member from each of four generations of two families from the Wanganui region - the Stoneman family and the Mete Kingi family. Focuses on parent-child relationships, marriages, attitudes to alcohol and drugs and other social behaviour in the Stoneman family. Members of the Stoneman family interviewed are Cristal Stoneman, Sharon Stoneman, Ian Stoneman and Olive Olsen. Members of the Mete Kingi family talk about Maori culture, traditional life, loss of language and the relearning of it in the current generation, land disputes, attitudes to sex and Maori-Pakeha relations. Those interviewed are Aneka Erueti, Karen Erueti, Rangipo Mete Kingi and Wikitoria Mete Kingi. Description: Peggy Lackey was a cousin of Denis Glover. Describes Denis Glover's father, Harry Glover, his sense of humour, work as a dentist and his brief experience as a pig farmer at Eltham. Mentions his return to dentistry in Takapuna until his death. Discusses Harry Glover's first wife Lyla Falck, her relationship with the Glover family and the effect of their relationship on Harry Glover's relationship with his children. Talks about Harry Glover's second wife, Maud Curtis, and the ramifications of the will of his father, George Glover. Discusses George Glover's successful business operation prior to migrating to New Zealand, his home in Oriental Bay, his eleven children, the careers of his sons, his properties in Wellington and the demise of the family fortune. Mentions the regard Harry Glover was held in by many of his patients. Description: Myrtle Richards was born on 6 January 1900. Describes her family background and early life in Nelson and how her family coped after her father left. Talks about working in a surveyor's office, meeting and marrying Edwin Richards and settling in Paturau. Describes her trousseau, getting married, pregnancy, birth, Granny Wigzell's nursing home at Collingwood, contraception, child-rearing and domestic routines. Talks about the Paturau School, the Paturau hall and local identities. Describes running the Paturau Post Office and providing accommodation for visitors to the Taitapu estate. Recalls the difficulties of transport in Golden Bay before World War II and the impact of the car. Mentions the Home Guard based at Paturau Hall, farm accidents, earthquakes and floods. Comments on the effects of isolation on women's health, lack of financial independence for women, work gender roles, social class, employment, domestic work, educational opportunites for women, family relationships and alcohol.
