Served in the 20th Battalion, Armoured Division Brigade during World War Two; father of Errol Maffey. Came from Hororata, South Island, then Glen Tunnel where he worked at a pottery factory. While in the army he was at Burnham and Waiouru, leaving from Auckland. After the war came to Welleington and worked for A & T Burt as a storeman at the Courtenay Place branch. In the 1970s was promoted to branch manager at Naenae, then Otaki and divided his time between there and Island Bay.
