Date: 1973-1995
By: Ode Record Company Ltd
Reference: ATL-Group-00145
Description: Collection comprises audio tape master recordings made by Ode Record Company Ltd and released under the labels Ode and Manu. Recordings were made at studios in Wellington and Auckland (H.M.V, Mandrill, Stebbing), and in Fiji, Tonga, and India. Many of the master recordings have a 'SODE’ or 'SODET’ reference number which corresponds to the Ode catalogue number for that particular release. Often there are two tapes (side A and side B) per release, with ‘A’ or ‘B’ included in the reference number. SODE numbers generally refer to releases on vinyl disc; while SODET numbers refer to releases on cassette tape. Recordings comprise various genres of music by New Zealand and pacific artists: classical, jazz, folk, and traditional songs. Also includes narrated nursery rhymes and fairy stories for children. Artists include the Quincy Conserve, Korolevu Beach Serenaders, Alexander Schnittke, Martha Louise, Gentle Annie, and Space Case. Collection also contains copies of packaging, labelling, and technical information originally delivered with material. All packaging and labels are stored together in one folder. Original labelling is included where it was able to be removed from storage with associated reel. Part of the Archive of New Zealand Music.
