Description: Maurice (Maurie) Leslie Rendle born Woodville. Gives some family background - father was an investigating officer with the Post Office. Recalls attending schools in Palmerston North and being involved in Boys Brigade and YMCA soccer club. Has been a Methodist all his life. Recalls joining New Zealand Air Force 1957 and considers he learned management and leadership skills. After 15 years left the Air Force and joined YMCA as Director of Businessmen's Health Club and in 1973 set up a women's club. Recalls how the club was marketed and how he set about giving the club and the YMCA a more upmarket image. Became Chief Executive of the Auckland YMCA. Discusses the financial state and Camp Adair, the hostel and stadium. Recalls that the Board of Directors included John Wilkinson, Grahame Glaister, Bill Adair and Lomond Steel. Describes impact John Wilkinson made on camping. Refers to the two villages built at camp. Explains policy on donations and traditional YMCA camp philosophy. Refers to Shakespeare Lodge which was opened by Mike Moore in 1984 and boating compound developed 1986. Comments on the impact of the policy of encouraging involvement of women and allowing women to stay in hostels.
