Description: Transparency slides of Mr E G Williams' (Edmund Gardner Williams') travel in New Zealand in 1959. This sheet of slides was probably taken earlier than those on some of the preceding sheets (information from his diary). This sheet contains images of Wellington, including Wellington Airport; views from Mount Victoria; around the Wellington coast including shore with marram grass and black-backed gulls; the Petone Settlers' Memorial; Marine Parade around Miramar, with the Monowai sailing through Wellington Heads; buildings in the city including Parliament Buildings, Government Buildings, Wakefield House at 90 The Terrace, used by the Founders Club; and an old two-storeyed wooden house on the Terrace; the Corinthic loading various goods at Wellington Wharves; Lambton Quay; Cable Car terminal and views of Wellington; and the Carter Observatory. Slides on this sheet are numbered 505-528, with a gap for no. 506. Arrangement: Image no. 506 (showing the view from Mount Victoria in Wellington) was taken as part of Williams' representative collection on New Zealand for various lectures which he gave when he returned to England. Description: Transparency slides of Mr E G Williams' (Edmund Gardner Williams') travel in New Zealand, and his return voyage to England on the Corinthic. The first 3 slides show wandering albatrosses in flight and on a nest, followed by four images of native New Zealand alpine plants in the South Island including Spaniards speargrass, the South Island gentian, a mountain daisy, and a form of senecio. The following views relate to his travel on the Corinthic via Pitcairn Island, including approaching the island, small boats approaching, and two Pitcairn Island women. The next slides show scenes in Panama where they went ashore visiting various sights including Iglesia de San José and Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Carmen, leaving next day through the Panama Canal. Description: Transparency slides of Mr E G Williams' (Edmund Gardner Williams') return voyage from New Zealand to England on the Corinthic. The first 14 images show aspects of the Panama Canal including the Mireflores Locks, Pedro Miguel Docks, the Culebra (or Gaillard) Cut, Gamboa and the Gatun Locks. The last 10 slides show arrival in Curacao, and views of Willemstad. These show the wharves, Dutch facades on houses along the waterfront and in a small square, a market, the inner harbour, and views of huge oil tanks and an oil installation. The diary used is one for 1959; thus, the Sep to Dec 1958 portion is written in the latter part of the diary, with the year altered to 1958. The 1959 part is entered in the first part of the diary. Includes account of his voyage to and from England, entries and observations on New Zealand. Also includes addresses, some expense accounts, a summary of his movements and an undated newspaper article on the geology, fauna and flora of Mount Pirongia, by Mr M C Gudex.
