Description: Cadastral map, with topographic features, of the Hutt River valley from an area north of the Stokes Valley bridge to the harbour. Includes the road which runs parallel to the river. High Street, Victoria Street, Railway Avenue, and Hutt Road are named. The settlements of Richmond, Aglionby and Britannia are named. Includes numbered sections with owners' names. Clifford, Molesworth, Taine, Park, Child, Alzdorf, Hanson, Stokes, Dr. Evans, Riddiford, Dr. Dorset, Swainson, Barton, Compton, Captain Daniell, Colonel Wakefield, Burcham, Bidwill. Several areas of native reserve are marked as are the sites of a pa, Hughes' House, Masons House, Boulcott's House, Molesworth Farm, Aglionby Arms, Queens Head Inn are marked. Description: Survey plan of three drawings showing the details, including bearings and co-ordinates in terms of geo datum 1949, of an existing road being closed and the new replacement road in the Canterbury Land District, Clyde Survey District, Ashburton County. The drawing on the left side of the map shows the overview detail of the existing and replacement road with the roads location to the Clyde River, the survey co-ordinates from Gowler Downs, the survey order number S.O.11331,that the road trasverses and that it crosses Run 112, Erewhon. The road is identified as being 75.76 links wide and the scale of the drawing is 5 chains to the inch. The middle drawing identifies in much detail, the bearings and co-ordinates, including locations of survey pegs, of the road being closed and those of the new replacement road. Two areas within the drawing shown as 'Diagram A' and 'Diagram B', are drawn again, giving greater detail of the bearings and co-ordinates. The road is shown to transverse S.O.11076, S.O.4572, S.O. 11331 and R.S.8178 Survey co-ordinates from Gowler Downs are also shown and that the road crosses land known as Run 112, Erewhon. The name A.A.Urquhart is also printed under Erewhon. The scale of the middle drawing is 2 chains to an inch. The third drawing, located on the right side of the map, is identifed as 'Diagram of Bearing Control, not to scale'. It includes bearings from Blk.XI Clyde S.D., Craig Phillips Blk.XIV Clyde S., and 8031 Rabbit Hill Blk. XIV Clyde S.D. A legend, 'Shedule of Areas; Purpose, Colour, Area', is located at the top right corner of the map. Purpose states, 'Road to be closed", 'New Road (from RS8178)' and '(from Sec.58CL) Part Road to be closed'. Colour states 'Green', 'Orange', and the Area, identifies two numerical areas for the 'Road Closed', five for the 'New Road' and one for the 'Part Road to be Closed'. A 'Note' advises 'All marks down 12" [inch] unless otherwise shown. Boundaries not fenced unless otherwise shown.' Data relating to the Survey Block and District, Land District, Local Authority, scale, surveyed by, and date are located at the bottom of the map. Description: Collection comprises digitised copies of unpublished maps created or held by New Zealand government agencies New Zealand Mapping Service (NZMS), Lands and Survey (L&S), and Land Information New Zealand (LINZ). Includes the Topoplot 270 series, and other collected sets of maps associated with a map series, geographic areas, or use by the government agencies. The maps bear annotations, often in unidentified hands, relating to their accumulation and use over time. AIso includes charts. Title supplied by Library. The National Library of New Zealand partnered with the University of Auckland to create a digital repository of govenrment printed maps owned and created by LINZ. The pilot project was initated by the University of Auckland in 2009, and further developed with input from the National Library of New Zealand (NLNZ), the National School of Surveying at the University of Otago, Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) and the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF). During 2012-2016 the LINZ collection of maps held at the New Zealand Defence Force library at Trentham, Upper Hutt, were scanned by contact scanners to produce archival quality digital surrogates. Description: Maps of New Zealand that were used by the New Zealand Geographic Board. On these maps, the New Zealand Geographic Board showed official names of geographic features in New Zealand. These maps were used along with other documentation to populate LINZ's online placenames database. Arrangement: The original arrangement of the maps by the NZGB has been preserved by the Library. Following the alpha prefix of the Library reference number are three numbers. These numbers relate to the original location of the map within the NZGB filing sequence, being the original drawer number, the original folder number, and the number of the map within that folder.
