Describes: Coastal Radar Installations; making contour maps; Surveying and Photogrametric Branch; marriage to Audrey (1945) and transfer to DSIR. Gives details of work at DSIR, including: Import Consents for Radio-active Isotopes from Harwell, UK; recruitment for geophysical units, Magnetic Survey & Ionosphere Research Laboratory in Christchurch; Seismological Laboratory; Oceanographic Observatory in Wellington, and the formation of the Geophysics Dept (including all three units) under Eddie Robertson ex Imperial College London University. Describes three years in Geophysics Division; geothermal project Wairaki, with Ministry of Works drilling 1950; seismic surveys of dams in Waikato Region.
