Description: Family photographs of the Barnes family featuring the homestead Terewhiti and the following family members: Henry, Walter Ernest (Ernie - at various ages), Mary, Julia (Ernie's wife), Ernie's son Thomas, Lorraine, and Leslie. Also included are scenic views; scenes of mustering and shearing on the farm; Ernie and others in First World War uniforms; a burned down house; soldiers at Trentham camp eating a meal outside their tent (as a postcard signed by George McDermott to his brother and sister Alice and Bill); Lorraine Barnes taking part in a recording of the radio show The Quiz Kids as a member of the Hutt Valley team (The Quiz Kids was introduced by Selwyn Toogood in the 1950s); results of a national election being monitored on a wall chart ca 1930s; Ernie Barnes as captain of the Wellington Telephone Exchange Cricket Club; and two of officers and soldiers from the Second World War. Description: Family history papers relating to William Barnes, comprising a copy of a book of poems by Willam Barnes 'Poems - grave and gay', three annotated books about William Barnes, and a folder of research papers and notes on William Barnes and the Barnes family. The books about William Barnes belonged to Sandra Grieg and were probably annotated by her. The folder contains some loose pages that were inside the copy of 'The man and the poems', and a clearfile titled 'Barnes - poet'. Inside the clearfile is an annotated copy of 'An introduction to William Barnes, the Dorset poet', signed by the author Douglas Ashdown. Accompanying this book is a blank membership card for the Willaim Barnes Scoiety 1999-2000. It is unclear if the clearfile was compiled by Ray Barnes or Sandra Grieg. It contains family trees, copies of photographs, newsclippings, a pedigree of Barnes, a copy of 'The lineage of William Barnes of Dorset' by Col. Lawrence E. Barnes, and other family history research notes. Also included in the clearfile is correspondence between Sandra Greig and the Alexander Turnbull Library regarding the donation in 2011 of Ray Barnes material to the library. Also a handwritten note from Ray Barnes authorising Greig to keep the Barnes family history compiled by Barnes Other Titles - William Barnes, My hwomeward road.
