French naval vessel. Sailing around Australia and New Zealand in 1831-1832. Under the command of Cyrille Pierre Laplace. It visited the Bay of Islands between 2 and 11 October 1831.

Description: The French ship La Favourite crossing rough seas, to enter the Bay of Islands in stormy conditions in October 1831 during the visit of its captain, LaPlace and his crew. The title of the print, and its appearance, suggest that there is a bar, or difficult sea passage at the entrance to the Bay of Islands, near Kororareka (modern Russell). This is not the case.
