Landlord of the Wanganui Hotel. Came to New Zealand with the 65th Regiment. Lieutenant of the Veteran Volunteers during the New Zealand Wars, and saw action at Nukumaru. Head of the Police. Eldest son of John Atkinson of Channourock County, Louth. Husband of Celia (later Mrs Henry McNeil; d 1909). Died on 27 Oct 1870 aged 51 years.
