Captain with the NZ Militia. With his father in law, T Lowry, he leased a property at Karaetaha, Poverty Bay. Killed at Matawhero with his wife Alice (succumbed to her injuries on 17 Dec 1868, aged 30), and three of their four children (Alice, 6 years; Edwin J., 4 years; Jessie, 1 year six months) and manservant (Private John Moran, aged 60 years), 10 November 1868, by Te Kooti's party.
