Description: Photographs recording a journey through the island nations of the South Pacific which include Fiji, Tahiti and other islands in the Society group and the Tuamotu Archipeligo, Hawaii, American Samoa, Tonga, the Cook Islands, and Noumea in New Caledonia. Subjects include the principal towns, the local people and some traditional buildings, occupations such as fishing, tourist excursion operators, and traders in shops and markets. Also beaches and other scenic landscapes. The last three pages of photographs are a record of delegates and events at the 16th South Pacific Conference held in Noumea. Title supplied by Library. Description: South Island views include Akaroa township and Robinson's Bay, Stewart Island, Port Chalmers and Dunedin. Localities in Otago and Central Otago, include goldrush areas like Tuapeka. Milford Sound, Oamaru, and the cities of Christchurch, and Nelson are also featured. North Island locations include cities and towns such as Wellington, Auckland, Ohinemutu and Gisborne. There are standard tourist features like the Pink and White Terraces, and geysers. There is also one group of photographs of Maori. Some notable buildings are also depicted. From outside New Zealand there are views of Honolulu, Yellowstone Park USA, Canada including Toronto, Otawa, and the Niagra Falls. Views From Britain are made up mainly of Edinburgh and some of its principal buildings, and well known London buildings such as the National Gallery and Westminster Abbey.
