Hayward, H M, -1953

Involved in the Melrose Proprietors in 1887; Melrose was named after him. married Jessie Burne Luxford in 1886. Only daughter Muriel married John Patrick Daunt Leahy on 20 Aug 1919 at St James's Church, Lower Hutt (Evening post, 17 Oct 1919, p 1). Died in 1953 aged 96 years. Owner of a three-storeyed house ('Rato') in the Waiwhetu area of Lower Hutt. Large bush-covered area of his property became the Hayward Scenic Reserve. Description: Map of nine numbered sections with acreages and boundary measurements between Haughton (now spelt Houghton) Bay Road and Clonmel Road at the junction of Buckley Road. Includes a directional arrow to Russell Terrace. Three properties are marked as sold. A stream is marked through section 8. Sections 270 and 271 are adjacent to Haughton Bay Road and the town belt. Clonmel Road and the subdivision were never established. The area is now part of Sinclair Park Note under title states: See plan on outside Notes under subtitle state: Measurements in links.
