Description: Medals made by Thomas Fattorini Ltd. The Badge and Star of the DCNZM awarded to Judith Binney in 2006, complete with box and accompanying notes on how they should be worn, as well as a short biographical note. The Badge is attached to a red ochre silk ribbon; the Star is a smaller version of the badge, welded to an eight-pointed silver-gilt star, in the form of fern leaves. Both bear the coat of arms of New Zealand within a green enamel ring bearing the motto 'For Merit | Tohu Hiranga', topped by a royal crown. Title supplied by Library. For services to historical research, Judith Binney was appointed a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 1997 New Year Honours. In the 2006 New Year Honours she was promoted to Distinguished Companion of the same order. In 2009 she accepted redesignation as a Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, following the restoration of titular honours by the New Zealand government.
