Rushworth, Pastor, 1909-2000

Trained at St John's Theological College, Auckland. Ordained in 1936. Was curate at Ponsonby, Auckland, after which, in succession, was vicar of Warkworth and Northcote. Vicar of St Georges Anglican parish, Seatoun, Wellington, from 1948 to 1957. Left Seatoun to become vicar of Hawera. Anglican pastor of Rangitikei-Manawatu Maori pastorate in the 1960s. Attended the Wellington District Maori Anglican Hui Aroha at Masterton in 1961, with Pastors Taiapa [Taeapa], Keith Elliot and Cook. Description: A public dinner in the Winter Show buildings, Wellinton. This event was a Wells System money raising promotion probably for the parish of St George's, Seatoun. In one photograph Mr E M (Everard Maunsell ?) Stace is speaking, and in the other the speaker is the vicar Jack Rushworth. The Wells System was developed in the United States as a way of raising money. It was applied in the Anglican and other churches in New Zealand in the 1950s, in particular as the means for establishing the idea of planned giving to support the church, or to raise money for projects such as new church buildings or parish halls.
