Description: The story of two related families, Barraud and Chapman, who came to New Zealand as pioneer settlers. It touches on their voyages out on the Bangalore in 1844 and the Pilgrim in 1849, raising their children and the difficulties they had to overcome settling in. Through the letters of 12 year old Jessie Sarah Barraud it describes their two year trip home to England in 1875, the places they saw and the relatives they visited. Later in New Zealand the story recounts the day to day happenings, people and events that took place, paricularly in and around Wellington, as well as Milton and Wanganui.
