Richardson, Lillie Augusta, 1868-1937

Knox, Lillie, 1868-1937

Daughter of George Frederick Richardson, runholder of Southland. In 1890 together with her sister Ethel and Fanny she went to the sub-antarctic islands on the government steamer Hinemoa. The Richardson sisters were probably the first women to set foot on any of these islands. Lillie was later to marry the ship's carpenter Andrew Knox, and move to a sheep station at Pahiatua. Her consuming passion was horses. (The Book of New Zealand women / edited by Charlotte Macdonald et al)
