McMillan, David, 1836-1904

Arrived in New Zealand on the 'Rose of Sharon' in 1857 and farmed at Southbridge, Canterbury. Member of Selwyn County Council, 1876-1896, and for 11 years Chairman. Member of Parliament for Coleridge 1881-1887. He also served on the Canterbury Land Board, 1883-1900, the Canterbury Plantation Board, Lyttelton Harbour Board, Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association and Ellesmere Association, and was a member of the Canterbury Agricultural College Baord of Governors. Wrote letters from Beachcroft, Southbridge, in 1890s to Sir John Hall.
