Matiu, active 1861

Name taken from minutes of a meeting held September 9, 1861 at Takapuwahia to hear a land dispute between Ngati Toa and Nicholas Searancke. Te Kakakura Wi Parata was the spokesperson for Ngati Toa. Matiu was stated as being one of the Ngati Toa chiefs present at this hearing. Matiu was a young chief during the Ngati Toa migration from the Kawhia region.
