Mary Ann (Margaret) Heberley was baptised in 1842 at Cloudy Bay under the name Margaret. She was the daughter of James Heberley, a whaler of Port Underwood and Te Wai, an Ati Awa woman whom he married in 1841. Married twice; Firstly to Robert Woodgate (d 1863) on 5 Jul 1854 in Wellington; Secondly to her brother-in-law William Henry Woodgate, in ca 1864, who was executed in 1877 for murdering his niece's newborn baby. Died 23 Nov 1873 in Queen Charlotte Sounds, at 40 years of age.
