Te Kanae, Hohepa, active 1842

Hohepa Te Kanae was baptised in 1842 at Cloudy Bay at the same time that Wiremu Neera Te Kanae; his wife - Karoraina Tutari; his daughter - Ria Te Uira and others of the Ngati Toa were baptised. It is assumed that had whakapapa connection to Ngati Toa - Ngati Rarua - Ngati Koata since they were the principal iwi occuppying the Cloudy Bay - Wairau area at this time.
