Baptised in 1843 in Cloudy Bay. Although Kirioana cannot be identified she probably had whakapapa to Ngati Toa - Ngati Rarua - Ngati Koata or Te Ati Awa because these tribes occupied the Cloudy Bay - Wairau area at this time.
