Ashdown, George, 1805?-1858

George Ashdown and Te Runanga's child (name indecipherable due to fire damage of original manuscript) was baptised in 1840. One of their children is buried at Te Ruakohatu Urupa - the Parata family cemetery in Waikanae. This suggests a whakapapa link to Ngati Toa, Te Ati Awa, and Ngati Raukawa although further research is needed to determine the relationships between the Ashdowns and the iwi Maori mentioned. George married Mary Ann Ames in 1856 (widow of James Ames, whaler and hotel proprietor of Wellington). He is buried in Ames family plot in Bolton Street Cemetery, Wellington
