Tutari was Te Rauparaha's third child to his first wife - Marore of Ngati Toa. Tutari married the Ngati Toa chief Te Kanae and is recorded as having being baptised along with her husband Te Kanae and their daughter Ria Te Uira at Cloudy Bay in 1842.
