Description: Legs, arms and part of a torso, showing musculature On back is an almost erased picture of an angel with a tablet of stone, and a cherub, with semi-circular lines at the edge of the sheet. One semi-circular line is partially cut through. A photograph of this accompanies the picture. The signature, M Angelo, appears similar to Michelangelo's known signatures; however Hugo Chapman, Keepter of Italian and French drawings, British Museum, has examined detailed photographs of the drawing and is certain that it is not the work of Michelangelo. It does appear to be a 16th century Italian drawing. The square ownership stamp, upper right, has been identified as that of Sir Joshua Reynolds Inscriptions: Recto - bottom left - A traced-over name reads: M Angelo. There are also two former owners' stamps, one in a square upper right, one possibly an italic upper case P in an oval. On the right side is G45 in red chalk Quantity: 1 drawing(s). Physical Description: Pen drawing, 272 x 387 mm Provenance: In 1904 and probably later it was in an album in the possession of New Zealand collector, Benjamin Hibbard.
