Merchant, Nairn Street, Wellington. Born in Ireland, son of Ambrose Port and Rachel (formerly Palmer). Arrived in NZ about 1861 and the following year he married Margaret Campbell (d 1873) - 5 children. In Dec 1879 he was declared insolvent (see NZ Mail, 27 Dec 1879, p 10). Died on 9 Mar 1881, buried with his wife at Sydney Street Cemetery, Wellington.
