Description: Black and white photographic prints taken by an unidentified photographer, probably Green & Hahn, between 1930 and 1933. Photographs predominately relate to New Zealand industries in the Canterbury area and appear to have been published in The Press newspaper. Six prints relating to Christchurch Tramways. Three prints showing; the interior of a one-man tram, a horse-car recommissioned for the youth employment campaign, and Hills Road (Shirley) shown lined with trolley-bus poles. A motor vehicle and horse and cart can be seen on the road. Three prints relating to the 1932 Tramways Union strike; people walking to work, Tramways staff about to sign off, and the left portion of a panoramic print taken outside the Tramway’s Board building, corner of Fitzgerald and Moorhouse Avenues. Groups of people are shown watching a line of men marching, many of whom appear to hold batons. Six prints relate to the Acheron Diversion industrial project, Acheron River and Lake Coleridge. Includes two horse-drawn scoops clearing gravel from the Lake Coleridge intake, the Lake Coleridge surge chamber and switchboard, and five workers shovelling debris in to wooden wheelbarrows. Includes one image of three men making wooden cases, Christchurch. Branding on the cases read; Vacuum Oil Company Proprietary LTD, Laurel Kerosene, Plume Motor Spirit. Publication captions are pasted on the reverse of many prints. Additional caption information is inscribed on the verso of most photographs, as are the initials ‘G&H’. These prints were likely taken by Christchurch based photographers Green & Hahn (1928-c.1975). Reference numbers on stickers for Rogers Photo Archives and Webb’s auction house are attached to each print. Descriptive information taken from captions, annotation on the photographs and Papers Past. Title supplied by Library. Arrangement: Purchased at auction with no discernible order, arrangement imposed by archivist. Quantity: 13 b&w original photographic print(s). Provenance: These images were part of the Fairfax Archive photography collection. The Fairfax photography collection was owned by the John Roger Archive, Arkansas. These images were on-sold to a US-based photo dealer and then on-sold to Webb's Auction house.
