Wilson, James, 1799?-1883

Arrived on 'Bengal Merchant' 1840 with his family. Lived in Wellington where he worked as an engineer and architect. In 1853 the family moved to Turakina and bought an estate of 7000 acres (Ann Bank). Gave land at Turakina ca 1857 for the school and the Presbyterian Church. Later he moved to Wanganui, and thence to England in 1866. On the death of his wife in 1878 he returned to New Zealand and settled in Auckland. He represented Wanganui and Rangitikei in the Provincial Council, 1856-1857.
