Brewer in the firm Staples & Co, Murphy Street, Wellington. Born in Reading; came to New Zealand with his parents John (b 1814) and Fanny Staples on the ship 'Fifeshire' when he was 3. Founded the brewery company with his brother William Staples. Buried in family plot at Bolton Street Cemetery, Wellington
