Description: Black and white photographic prints of images of New Zealand houses and apartments taken by James Siers between circa 1968 and 1971 for use in the 1971 book 'A guide to home decorating in New Zealand' by Vivien Shelton and James and Judy Siers published by A.H. Reed & A.W. Reed Limited. One print is of a newspaper photograph. Not all prints appear in the book; the book contains images which do not appear in this collection. Images show New Zealand house and apartment (or flat) interiors and exteriors, including entrances, hallways, living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, households furnishings, effects, and ornaments. A few prints show composed tableau of furnishings and meals. Includes colour photocopies of the portraits, some correspondence, and information about the location or ownership of the paintings. Also inlcudes a programme for 2006 New Zealand Symphony Orchestra performance 'Parsifal', and some photocopies of a landscape by Day. Title taken from original enclosure. Arrangement: The contents of this item were received by the Library in a folder containing clear plastic sleeves, the order of the material in the folder has been retained, acidfree paper has been inserted to replicate the groupings of papers in the plastic sleeves. Quantity: 1 folder(s). Processing information: The contents of each plastic sleeve have been rehoused with a folded sheet of acidfree paper, one per sleeve, and the label information on the sleeves has been photocopied and included. The sleeves have been disposed of. One sleeve was empty so there is a photocopy of the label but no contents. Some sleeves did not have labels. Some loose material was also inside the folder without being in a sleeve.

Description: Most of the photographs in this group date from the 1960s and 1970s. They show students in the Manners Street premises doing excersises and ballet positions some at least of which were taken for promotional purposes. Others have been taken on rocks on the Wellington coast and at other outside locations. Other photographs relating to the School show visiting examinors and teachers, and other unidentified persons with the students. Arrangement: Negatives associated with this collection are housed at 35mm, 26338 to 35mm, 26431 The Galina Wassiliewa School of Russian Classical Ballet opened in Wellington, in 1953. Sometime in the late 1950s the school also became the New Zealand Branch of the British Association of Russian Classical Ballet. Galina Wassiliewa retired from running the school in 1987. At the time of her retirement the school was to be taken over by Jane Stephens who had studied with her for 14 years. According to another student, Kieth McEwing, the school continued as a co-operative until about 1992. Galina continued to teach and take private pupils until shortly before her death in 1999.
