Sarah arrived in New Zealand in 1859 with her brother Edward and sisters Ellen and Mary Moorhouse. She lived under the care of her brother William Sefton Moorhouse until she married William Barnard Rhodes in 1869. She was prominent in the Order of St John. She lived in "The Grange", Wadestown, Wellington. In her will Mrs Rhodes left £11,000 to the Wellington Boy's Institute to build a hostel for working boys who were orphaned or whose parents were unable to assist them financially during the years of their apprenticeship. It was known as the S A Rhodes Home for Boys. Mrs Rhodes is buried at Bolton Street Cemetery, Wellington. Died in 1914 aged 77 years.
