General merchant, JP. Came to New Zealand on board the 'Pilgrim' in 1849. Listed in Wellington almanac for 1851 as living or working in Lambton Quay. Husband of Ann Anderson née Thompson (1814-1910). Father of sons; Edward, David Anderson (1835?-1918), John, Allan, James Anderson (1854?-1859), and William. Father of daughters; Mrs Jessie Foreman, Mrs Ellen Ballance (1846-1935), and Anne Anderson (1838?-1932; Mrs William Finnimore). Buried at Bolton Street Cemetery, Wellington, in the family grave.
