Description: Pamphlet lists the order of the 56 floats taking part in the procession, which was to be followed by The Battle of the Flowers". There are descriptions of the folk dancing to be held later that day, and of a floral carpet to be constructed at the south side of the Cathedral on 19 February (to remain for as long as the blooms last, an estimate of 3 days). A horticultural exhibition at King Edward Barracks was to be held 21-23 February. The verso shows a map of the procession route, from Latimer Square to Deans Avenue. Description: A poster issued to announce Canterbury's fixtures to celebrate New Zealand's centennial 1940. Shows an old pioneer couple gazing at the modern wonders of a motor car, a streamlined trained and a ship. In the left background are factory chimneys and tall buildings. Artist attribution based on signature. Irvine Major would have been only 17-18 years old at that time. The New Zealand Centennial celebrations in 1940 lasted from January to 16 November. A programme booklet at Eph-A-HISTORY-1940 shows that fixtures for the Canterbury province were concentrated in the period of 8-15 April, with pageantry, displays, and the National Maori celebrations for the South island.
