"Hybrid?" "Runs on 60% government funding, 20% overseas cash, and 20% union investment....

Date: 2009

From: Moreu, Michael, 1969-: [Digital cartoons published in the Christchurch Press and Fairfax Media]

Reference: DCDL-0011428

Description: Two men admire the 'All new 2009 Detroit hybrid' General Motors car that sits on a dais. The fat businessman tells his companion that it runs on 60% government funding, 20% overseas cash and 20% union investment. Refers to a report (denied by Toyota) that the Yomiuri, Japan's largest newspaper, says Toyota is looking into the possibility of offering its hybrid technology to GM. The report says Toyota sees it as an opportunity to make its hybrid technology more widespread. General Motors Corp has filed for bankruptcy saying it had no other choice because the Obama administration would only provide it with additional funding in bankruptcy. There is a joke over the meaning of 'hybrid' - A hybrid vehicle is a vehicle that uses two or more distinct power sources to move the vehicle. The term most commonly refers to hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), which combine an internal combustion engine and one or more electric motors; the word 'hybrid' as used in the cartoon means using two or more sources of finance to allow Detroit General Motors to continue to make hybris cars. Colour and black and white versions available Quantity: 2 digital cartoon(s).
