Captain William Mayhew. An American whaler (from Marthas Vineyard, United States) who lived about Kapiti during the late 1830s and early 1840s. He bought sections at Wharekohu (southern end of Kapiti Island), and acquired rights to operate from Tahoramaurea Is where Andrew Brown operated the store. Acting Vice-Consul of the United States of America (successor of James Reddy Clendon), in 1842, at Wahapu, Bay of Islands.
