White, Unk, 1900-1986

Cartoonist; born in Auckland but moved to Sydney, Australia in 1922 and began contributing humorous sketches to the `Bulletin', an association which lasted 35 years. During the 1920s and 1930s he travelled widely overseas and lived and worked in Paris, London, Brussels, Heidelberg, Panama and Costa Rica. In 1944 he became an accredited war artist sketching life on active service with the RRAF in New Guinea and the Royal Navy in the Pacific. (Christchurch Sketchbook)
