Description: All frames taken at a rodeo, probably at Waimarino Showgrounds, Raetihi. Frames 1 & 2 show a man in a pen, his saddled horse beside him and a number of bareback horses around him. They have white numbers branded onto their rumps. He is walking along the top of a fence between pens in frame 3, there are more horses in pens behind, and a line of cars and trucks in the background. A very young girl is leading a horse in frames 4 to 12; she is in complete control, totally confident. The horse is wearing support "boots" on its hind legs, reins, and has no saddle. Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra. Description: The camp of the Royal Artillery at Waitotara, Taranaki, with soldiers at leisure, attending to their horses and equipment. One man seated centrally, smoking a pipe, one on the right attending to a horse's hoof, another on the left close to the wheels of a large gun, blankets airing or drying on the guy ropes of tents, other men, horses and tents in the background. The watercolour is a copy of a watercolour by Colonel Edward Arthur Williams held by the Hocken Library and entitled One of our Brasier's non fighting days. Exhibited in 'Wide-Eyed: Early Images of New Zealand' exhibition of works by settler artists, held at the National Library of New Zealand Gallery, 18 July - 9 November 1997.
