Description: All frames taken at a rodeo, probably at Waimarino Showgrounds, Raetihi. Frames 1 & 2 show a man in a pen, his saddled horse beside him and a number of bareback horses around him. They have white numbers branded onto their rumps. He is walking along the top of a fence between pens in frame 3, there are more horses in pens behind, and a line of cars and trucks in the background. A very young girl is leading a horse in frames 4 to 12; she is in complete control, totally confident. The horse is wearing support "boots" on its hind legs, reins, and has no saddle. Description: The camp of the Royal Artillery at Waitotara, Taranaki, with soldiers at leisure, attending to their horses and equipment. One man seated centrally, smoking a pipe, one on the right attending to a horse's hoof, another on the left close to the wheels of a large gun, blankets airing or drying on the guy ropes of tents, other men, horses and tents in the background. The watercolour is a copy of a watercolour by Colonel Edward Arthur Williams held by the Hocken Library and entitled One of our Brasier's non fighting days. Exhibited in 'Wide-Eyed: Early Images of New Zealand' exhibition of works by settler artists, held at the National Library of New Zealand Gallery, 18 July - 9 November 1997.
