Haowhenua, Battle of, N.Z., 1834

This battle was sparked by the murder of Tawake, of the Puketapu hapu, by Ngati Raukawa on the arrival of the last Te Ati Awa migration from Taranaki, Te Heke Paukena (1833-34). The ensuing war lasted several months. On this occassion the Ngati Toa fought alongside the Te Ati Awa against the combined forces of Ngati Raukawa, Ngati Tuwharetoa, under Te Heuheu, and Waikato, under Te Wherowhero and others.

Rangipito use's the term "Uruuru-purumu" to describe the 19th century musket used by Maori.
