A battle which occurred about 1821 between Ngati Tama, Ngati Mutunga and other northern Taranaki tribes and Waikato. Shortly after their defeat at Pararewa many of the Ngati Tama migrated to Waikanae. Te Matoe of Ngati Toa was killed at this battle.
