Description: Collection of material formerly held by Mary Ann Lindsay (née Kerrigan), of manuscript musical scores and published sheet music. Comprises: - a Manuscript Music Book" which is annotated on inside front cover "Julia Kearins Kairanga 1904". It contains handwritten scores: 'Kathleen Mavoureen' "M J Kearins" "words by Mrs Crawford music by F N Crouch"; 'All The While' "Mary Kearins" "words by Clifton Bingham, music by Loree King"; unbars of titled music; 'In Happy Moments' song from the favourite opera Maritana' "composed by W + Vincent Wallace"; 'F Paolo Tosti'; 'Avoureen' "music by Wilton King, words by E Cecilia Fitzpatrick". Includes a piano arrangement of an unpublished song, 'Twilight', written and composed by the baritone Mose Hamilton Hodges. - a printed "Hymn Sheet" printed by A.L. Westmoreland (Palmerston North) which is annotated 'E Kerrigan Esq" and "Pohangin[a] Road". - a published sheet music of 'Boat Song', bearing the owner's stamp of the singer "Hubert E. Carter" and a stamp for the retailer "Eady's Auckland Music Warehouse Vulcan Lane corner 112-116 Queen Street". - a printed programme for the public speaking competition, the O'Shea Shield (1994) held at St Patrick's College, Silverstream. Mary Kearins lived and performed circa 1920s in Palmerston North, performing in 1921 in a concert at the Municipal Opera House which featured tenor Hubert E Carter. American baritone Moses Hamilton Hodges was a member of the Fisk Jubilee Singers, who settled in New Zealand and is known to have performed in Palmerston North between 1908 and 1923. Mary Ann's father Edward Kerrigan played violin in the orchestra of St Patricks College, Wellington. Quantity: 1 folder(s).
