Wi Te Kanae, active 1861

Ngati Toa chief and tohunga associated with the Ngati Te Maunu and Ngati Kimihia. Te Kanae was the eldest son of Te Matoe, killed at Parawera ca. 1821, and Hinekoto, an elder half sister of Te Rauparaha. It is said that his face was untattooed because his blood was too tapu to spill. He was a brother of Rawiri Puaha and Hohepa Tamaihengia.
