The biennial Katherine Mansfield Memorial Literary Award was introduced in 1959 by the Bank of New Zealand and the New Zealand Women Writers' Society in recognition of the importance of Katherine Mansfield to the New Zealand literary arts. This major award is now the Bank of New Zealand Katherine Mansfield Award. It is one of four awards collectively known as the Bank of New Zealand Katherine Mansfield Memorial Awards. In 2010 these awards were renamed the BNZ Literary Awards with the Premier Award becoming the BNZ Katherine Mansfield Award.
