Recalls commencing training as a nurse in 1987 at National Women's Hospital, Auckland, gaining her orthopaedic experience at Middlemore Hospital and graduating in 1970. Talks about eighteen months work as a staff nurse in theatres; marriage, move back to Wellington and birth of baby. Describes expereince as a school nurse at Wellington East Girls' College in 1978. Trained as a Plunket nurse at Moncrieffe Street in 1980 and recalls concerns about her children and childcare. Recalls experience as a Plunket nurse at Kilbirnie, Lyall Bay and Newtown and describes the different diversity of cultures in Kilbirnie and Newtown. Notes Newtown had Samoan and Polynesian mums and talks about the circumstances for many of these mothers. Refers to Bachelor of Nursing Degree at Victoria University which commenced in 1985 and backgrounds decision to attend course, completing it in three years. Description: Magazine billboard shows a photograph of the pink-lit Classical-style marble "Spirit of Peace" statue by Frank Connelly, of a semi-clothed woman with left arm raised above her head. Behind her is the top floor of a building, probably National Women's Hospital in Auckland. The statue is the work of American sculptor Pierce Frank Connelly and formerly stood in the grounds of a villa in Florence. It was bought by Cornwall Park Trustees at the request of the late Sir John Logan Campbell in 1909.
