Description: Opepe, circa 1880, with a stockade on hill on left and wooden houses. Photograph taken by Herbert Deveril of Wellington. Note on back of file print states that the `constabulary' mentioned in the inscription was the Bay of Plenty vounteer cavalry, which included some Maori members. Inscriptions: -Backing paper recto - Opepe 10 miles from Taupo it was here that the rebel Moaries [sic] murdered a samll detachment of constabulary 8th June 1869 Quantity: 1 b&w original photographic print(s).
