Moorhouse, Major, 1860-1929

Lawyer and magistrate. Practised in Wellington by himself and in partnership with Ernest Hadfield. Officer in the Wellesley Club; involved in racing, was Vice-President of the Wellington Racing Club and on the Royal Commission (1921) on horse racing. Also acted on other Royal Commissions, including that on Samoa (1919), and on war pensions. As Lieutenant-Colonel commanded `D' Battery of NZ Artillery. During WWI acted first as Post Office censor, then as the Presiding Magistrate in an Appeal Court dealing with hardship under compulsory enlistment. Was a founding member of Wellington Sports Club ca 1910. Married Jessie Matilda Hunter 1888.
