Son of Captain James and Flora MacInnes (née McColl). Presbyterian minister (Church of Scotland) at Oban and Cromdale (Strathspey). First cousin of Donald McLean, with whom he corresponded, 1848-1876, and with Douglas Maclean up until 1898.
