In the Government Whip's Room there was to be a display of Rontgen X-rays by Mr R T Turnbull assisted by Mr R C Jones. The inside spread shows a floor plan of the Parliamentary Buildings showing where each entertainment was to take place. The words of the "Singers' Welcome" by Grieg are reproduced on the back page. Description: Programme for a concert featuring the following performers: Wellington Orchestral Society, Mrs Parsons, Misses N and Phoebe Parsons, Mr John W Hill, Herr Max Hoppe, Mrs Alfred Levi, Mr Harry Smith, Miss Tansley. The cast of "Trial by jury" also included Mr W D Lyon, Mr E J Hill, Mr A E Mabin and Mr W Bastin, with stage manager Mr Alfred Levi. The mayor gave an address to Mrs Parsons. The decorative print at the top left of the front page shows a montage of scenic views of Europe, Egyptian pyramids, hot-air balloon, church, trees. An extract from the Evening post, 12 March 1898, page 6: " The programme in connection with the farewell concert to Mrs Parsons and her daughters is published to-day, and is of exceptional excellence. Besides Mrs Parsons and her sons and daughters in trio and quartette, Mrs Alfred Levi, Miss Tansley, and Miss Phoebe Parsons, Messrs. J. W. H ill, Harry Smith, and Herr Hoppe will tend valuable assistance to make the sendoff an artistic success. As well as the above artists the Orchestral Sorjety, under Mr. Maughan Barnett, and the Operatic Society in " Trial by Jury," will add most attractive features to a very, strong programme. The booking of seats at the Dresden is delighting the Committee of Management, and all points to a gigantic demonstration on Tuesday night.
