Description: Poster with detailed illustrations and text, advertising performances by the Thorpe McConville rodeo-circus. Traces the tradition of cowboys through Spanish conquistadors, mountain men and buffalo hunters, and shows many illustrations of the activities performed by cowboys and vaqueros. There are photographs of two of the leading American performers, Ray (Shorty) Sisco and Charles Stickney. Frank Maynard is also mentioned. The lower part of the poster quotes reviews of the Cossacks' performances, and shows photographs of Efin Pereverziff and Anatole Corloff in action. Other attractions listed are the "colossal combination of "Wild Australia" team of rough riders and outlaws, headed by "Swannee" and "Rocky Ned" (horses whom the public could ride for 10 pounds), and Tex Bailey's performing animals, circus attractions and clowns. The words "Rear Town Hall, Friday Mar 27" are handwritten across the top of the poster. Mark St Leon writes (10 November 2007): "This appears to include the remnants of an abortive Wild West show that was presented at the Melbourne Centenary late in 1934. Tex Bailey was probably my grandfather, Norman St Leon, who presented his trained dogs and horses in a statuary act. Ray McConville of Wangaratta Victoria has written and published the McConville history, ISBN 0 64633 686 Xl". Quantity: 1 colour photo-mechanical print(s) on poster..
