Description: Views around the Taupo Tongariro area, including Mounts Ngaruahoe and Tongariro, Huka Falls, Aratiatia Rapids, Lake Taupo and Wairakei. There is one image of the Maori interior of Tom Ryan's whare, one of the Terraces Hotel at Lake Taupo, and others of various buildings at the Spa Hotel (Taupo), including the interior of the dining room. This building was the meeting house Te Tiki o Tamamutu, purchased by John Joshua (proprietor of the Spa Hotel) for use as a smoking room and dining room for the hotel guests. Several images show unidentified Maori women in posed groups, or working with flax, and in one case a woman using a treadle sewing machine. An unidentified man is seen, in several images, fishing at pools below the Aratiatia Rapids. Photographs taken by Auckland Star photographers around the turn of the 19th-20th century. Description: Folded pamphlet promotes the hotel as a central location from which to visit geysers and blowholes. The "Spa" Coaching Company will take visitors to Wairakei Geysers, Tokaanu, Arateatea Rapids, Huka Falls and Rotokawa Sulphur Lake. The Maori Carved Dining Hall seats 100 persons, and there is a hot and tepid swimming bath, sulphur bath and tepid blue bath (all are free). There are rose gardens, pine plantations, lawn tennis courts, promenade and ornamental lawns, as well as grazing for horses. The back cover lists tariff. Quantity: 1 b&w art print(s). Most of the places mentioned are listed above. Image no. 63 shows a party of men and women at Sandfly Point (Milford Sound) showing some of the women wearing veils over their hats for protection from sandflies; image no. 79 "Phantom canoe as seen on Lake Tarawera" is an artist's impression of the phantom canoe which appeared to a group of tourists on Lake Tarawera on May 31st prior to the eruption of Mount Tarawera on June 10th 1886 and which was considered to be a bad omen; image no. 82 shows a collage "No. 1.
