The club, originally known as Petone Boating Club, was founded circa 1906. In 1908 the first club house opened. A permanent clubhouse, situated on Petone Esplanade, was built in 1922 but was destroyed by fire in 1939 (along with most of the club records) and was replaced the following year. A new clubhouse was erected on the same site, circa 1982.
